Instructional software tool

Discuss instructional software tools in technology intergration strategies that are based on constructivist models you have learned in chapter 3 to include one or two examples of them, their features, and functions.

Examples of them:
Save math apples- a computer game that helps a monkey save apples. You have to click the answers on the basket and you keep hitting the baskets to add the apples to your answer.

Jungle Jim and the Donga Dinga Drums- a computer game that helps encourages kids to play with numbers and multiply concepts and win points as long as they hit the right number.

Their features:
Teaches cooperative skills
Make learning fun and motivation (Ediutainment)
Motivate learners via the challenge of competition
Engage the learners in a situation where learner compete for high scores
Include element adventure and uncertainly
Provide different levels of complexity that match player’s abilities

Functions:
Uses group cooperation
Allow for Multiple intelligences
Motivating learning by adding game rules to learning acitivities

CHAPTER 2 QUESTION

Chapter 2 Questions

Short Answer
Q: Describe the relative advantage of using graphic tools to help students learn new concepts.
A: Graphing tools will help threw examples that are visual so that you are able to just look at them and see them. This will help you to understand any concepts or applications that you are not aware of.

Q: In Phase 2 of the Technology Integration Planning Model (TIP), teachers focus on the outcomes expected as a result of integrating technology into instruction. List four methods teachers can use to assess the outcomes of the plan.
A: Teachers will be able to use projects to assess their students with rubrics or even checklists they have to do. Also they can use surveys to see how and what your feelings are on certain things. You can use observation instruments which will help to see how a student or someone will act. You can finally use tests to test the student.

Q: Describe two advantages of required school and district policies such as policies regarding Internet use, legal and ethical use, and equity.
A: This will help to make the right behavior, safety for all of the students.

Web Enrichment Activities
Learning theory in technology-integrated lessons — Identify the learning theory addressed in a WebQuest. Locate a WebQuest at http://webquest.org/. Click on "Top," "Middling," or "New" and then view a WebQuest for a selected grade level and subject area. As you read the instructions and materials included in the WebQuest, make a list of five aspects of the WebQuest that are informed or supported by learning theory. Refer to Figures 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, and 2.6 in the textbook
Answer: It helps for them to understand both the lesson and technology. This will also help them put pictures with something that is going on in the world. It will help them to identify things that they need in life. It also shows the students what technology is out there. And it shows them how to use it.
Assessment of learning with rubrics — To see an example of rubrics developed for a student project, read about Mrs. Gaines' language arts lesson at http://ali.apple.com/ali_sites/hpli/Exhibits/1000734. Click on "The Lesson" to read the instructions to students, and click on "Assessment" to see the rubrics used by the students. Visit the Rubistar website at http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php for templates used by teachers to create custom rubrics. Refer to Figure 2.7 in the textbook and discuss the model that best applies to Mrs. Gaines' lesson and assessment. List three reasons for selecting that model.
Answer: It shows the student how they will be graded. It tells them also how the teacher feels about certain things that they will have to do in class. And that is like an assignment they will have to do, because for the rest of their lives they will have to do assignments, even multiple ones daily. So this just gives them some practice.
Information literacy — The American Association of School Librarians and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology have published the "Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning" located at http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/informationpower/InformationLiteracyStandards_final.pdf. Read the standards and indicators. Consider one standard and indicator, and think of an additional strategy that could be added to Figure 2.12 of the textbook to help students achieve the standard.
Answer: I think that every student should use information literate uses information accurately and creatively. To help them be creative with the rest of the stuff they do in life.

Making the Case for Technology Integration
Sheingold (1991) said that teachers will have to confront squarely the difficult problem of creating a school environment that is fundamentally different from the one they themselves experienced (p. 23). In what ways is the current K-12 environment different from the one you experienced? Do you feel this presents an obstacle to effective use of technology in your teaching? What are some strategies you feel might help teachers overcome this obstacle?
Answer: I believe that they use or are trying to use more computer and different technology. Because when I was in school we were using like pencil, paper and like try erase boards and even chalk boards. Yes, because i think with growning technology we need to grow a a society as well. Take some courses in technology to get better at what we need to teach in class.
NCATE's document Technology and the New Professional Teacher (1997) said that, in addition to technology skills, teachers need an attitude that is fearless in the use of technology, encourages them to take risks, and inspires them to be lifelong learners. What current factors and activities can help teachers develop such an attitude? What factors make it difficult for them to acquire it?
Answer: They need to learn to work with kids and have the patience to teach something over and over again. And not be mean or frustrated. The fact that every kid is different and learns a different way so their is a lot for them to do in some many years.

Where I'd Like to Teach....Dream!!

I think that I would like to teach in 2nd grade, in a rural area just like my hometown of Nuangola, Pa. I believe that i would like to have about 28-30 students from all different races, backgrounds and even home situations. I believe that I will help my students to become better learners and listeners. I want to not only be there teacher but also like a friends, so they can come talk to me at anytime about whatever they will need to talk about. I believe i will later in life go to be a principle. So i would like to teach somewhere down South where it is warm all the time. But if a job came up here in Pennsylvania then i would stay here. It just depends on where and when all of my schooling is all finish. I hope to be teaching by 2012.

Chapter 1 Short Answer questions

Question 1: Name two advances or developments that have occurred in technology since the 1970s that you feel have had significant effects on education, and explain why these technological changes had such effects.
The two advances of development are microcomputers and also the increase of use from laptop. Which helps to increase in the use of World Wide Web, networking or even bloggers and chat room and other things. Due to these advances I believe that this have broad in are technology with is making information more widely found. Which let's everything in the world speed up

Question 2: Discuss one emerging trend in technology and the effect it could have on classrooms and schools.
Due to the emerging trend in technology there is so much happening everyday. The biggest one I believe is the use of portable devices. First off it let's you be able to just log on anywhere you are, you don't have to sit at a desk or etc. You can take it anywhere you go, while the desktop you just leave there. I believe these technologies make classrooms and schools more flexible and can fit into anyone life, while desktop you need a whole room for them. When portable computers you can bring them in whenever you need them. I think it gives the young kids more to do with there lives then just hanging out and getting into trouble, this is a good learning experience. It also helps people who have learning disabilities do everything someone without disabilities can do. It is a main thing that all students should know because this developing idea is so important to are growing generation.

Question 3: Explain reasons for developing an electronic portfolio.
This portfolio is a great way to show everyone in the world at anytime what your skills are or what you have been doing in a certain class or even for your major. It helps others to learn about you and also how you work and what your work looks like. It can also show a school or teacher all of the awards or things that you have done good or bad. And they can get a feel of who you are without having to meet you one on one.
